THE SMITH AGENCY
Interface Design | Employee Experience | Automations
The Smith Agency is a multi-city staffing agency (Dallas, Atlanta, Vegas, and more) that hires young professionals to represent top brands at trade shows, including Free People, Queen of Sparkles, SHE + SKY, Melrose International, and others.
Each year, the founder, Lillian Smith, selects 5 to 10 high-performing members to become interns that spend the summer coming up with a capstone project that improves operations, recruitment, or marketing. The top three capstones are funded and their creators become Directors for The Smith Agency.
For my capstone project, I decided to do a full overhaul of the Smith Agency’s website and internal data collection: the first time the website had been updated since 2008!

In the past, I had told people about The Smith Agency. It was a wonderful way to make connections, practice professional sales, and get industry knowledge. However, nearly everyone I told about it asked if it was real because of how sketchy the website was!
When Lillian asked me to apply as an intern, I immediately knew what my capstone project would be.
In Adobe XD I created a working low-fidelity wireframe to demonstrate a better user flow.

I switched over to Figma for the high fidelity mockups, and UI refresh.

UX/UI Updates
As a hiring agency, we need to be a quick oiled machine. The experience needs to be quick and easy for clients and new hires to sign up, subscribe, or apply. This starts with optimizing forms/responses, and automating initial replies to give us more time to review the forms without people getting bored or forgetting. Embedding the forms also made the visuals more trustworthy.

Forms + Automation
After finishing the website, Lillian Smith asked if I could make a password protected team hub: somewhere where staff can log in and find everything they need each time they attend a trade show.

Team Hub
The whole reason behind optimizing and redesigning the website was to make it easier to get new applicants. As the Workforce Experience intern I guided each applicant through the entire process: starting with automated responses to their application, reaching out to schedule an interview, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding/training.
I developed a new training system that could be done in live sessions and automated on the website. We almost immediately saw a 72.8% increase in applicants. I personally helped train 30+ new people across the nation each quarter.
